In autumn 2014, my husband Sébastien received an offer to buy his tech company in London. The sale of the company was predicated on him relocating to Spain for a minimum of 2 years. At that time I was an associate at Foster and Partners, a world famous architectural practice in London and was working on fascinating projects all over the world. Eventually, after almost 9 years studying and working in the UK. we decided to take the offer and leave our lives behind in order to embrace the future in sunshiny Barcelona. That year, coincidentally, after 6 years of falling real-estate prices following the 2008 financial crisis, the Barcelona real estate market hit rock bottom. As prices were now half the price of what they used to be in 2007 and properties were yielding around 6%, we decided to seize the opportunity and invest in Barcelona’s real-estate. Since then, we have benefited from attractive property yields, rising house prices and have decided to call Barcelona our home for the foreseeable future.

Fast forward to 2017, and the average house price has gone up in the three years since we have been in Barcelona. In 2016, it achieved 17% growth, with prices expected to keep rising in the coming years. We also had the joy of welcoming our daughter Léa into our lives. We also established a property management company called Macro Scale to help us do investments professionally. We learned a lot about buying, selling, renting and refurbishing during these years and we can still foresee many challenges in the future. So instead of keeping this experience to ourselves, I have decided to start this blog to share our experiences with you in the hope that you will find it useful. In this blog, I will be documenting my investment experience with you as a designer/ developer rather than a real estate agent. During this endeavour, I also hope to meet people who appreciate the beauty of quality architecture and share the same investment vision as we do. Using these blog posts as a starting point, and with your help and comments, I will in due time compile a complete book dedicated to investing in Spain/ Barcelona.
